MMMD Engages Base Mineral Producers to Enhance Mineral Export Competitiveness

The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development (MMMD), in collaboration with the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), convened a stakeholder engagement meeting with producers of base minerals, particularly tungsten and antimony, to address challenges affecting Zimbabwe's mineral exports and identify practical solutions to strengthen the sector. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Hon Fred Moyo and the Permanent Secretary, The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development (MMMD), in collaboration with the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), convened a stakeholder engagement meeting with producers of base minerals, particularly tungsten and antimony, to address challenges affecting Zimbabwe's mineral exports and identify practical solutions to strengthen the sector. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Hon. Fred Moyo and the Permanent Secretary, Dr T.U Wushe, bringing together government officials, MMCZ and industry stakeholders for constructive dialogue on improving the performance of the base minerals sector. The engagement underscores MMMD's commitment to creating an enabling environment for the mining sector while reinforcing MMCZ's mandate to regulate and facilitate mineral marketing and exports in support of sustainable growth and increased value from Zimbabwe's mineral resources. As Zimbabwe's statutory regulator of mineral marketing and exports, MMCZ plays a pivotal role in facilitating mineral trade, promoting value addition and ensuring that mineral exports contribute optimally to national economic development. The engagement provided the Corporation with an opportunity to interact directly with producers and gather industry insights to support evidence-based policy implementation and regulatory improvements. Discussions focused on export procedures, market access, logistics, regulatory compliance and value addition. Stakeholders shared experiences and proposed recommendations aimed at improving the ease of doing business, enhancing export efficiency and strengthening the competitiveness of Zimbabwe's base minerals in regional and international markets., bringing together government officials, MMCZ and industry stakeholders for constructive dialogue on improving the performance of the base minerals sector.
